At a glance accessibility

This ride is a flat ride and is openly visible with a covered, step free queue line:

  • There is a standard standby queue, a premier access queue and a queue and waiting area for wheelchair users
  • All options are step free and well lit, with both daylight and additional lighting for evenings
  • So far the disability queues seem to be reasonably short, less than 5-10 minutes when the standby queue was at around 40 minutes
  • Green priority passes and purple passes without wheelchairs are usually directed to use the step free premier access queue
  • Orange and Blue pass holders and those using wheelchairs use a wheelchair waiting area, this area has some benches but the other queues do not
  • You can hear the ride music while in the queue.

Queue experience

Boarding the ride

This ride fully stops and unloads before boading, so it is stationary when you board.

Step 1: Entering the boarding area - Cast members will open gates and direct you to the right boat to board, the little doors will be open to allow access to the boats. If you need the adapted boat cast members will direct you to it and open up the wider door panel.
Step 2: Transfer process - once the wider panel is opened a wheelchair can be brought up next to the ride to allow a side transfer onto the bench seating in the boat. In my manual wheelchair the height difference was relatively small.
Step 3: Seating position - once onto the bench it is smooth so I could slide round further into the boat to allow my companion to board after me, meaning they could get out first to assist with getting my chair to transfer back out (though a cast member can bring your chair if needed). The bench is quite slippy as it is smooth. The only support is the back of the boat and there are no restraints and the bench is flat.

We didn't feel under any time pressure to board, cast members need to go round and check all boats before starting the ride so this takes a bit of time so we didn't feel we were slowing anything down.

Ride experience from an accessibility perspective

This ride does involve spinning, You can view the ride in operation from outside the ride before deciding if this may be a suitable ride and joining the queue.

  • There are no restraints within the boats
  • The boats spin while rotating on a moving floor, you can make the spinning more intense and faster by turning the wheel in the boat, or can no tturn it to reduce the intensity of the spinning
  • The lighting on this ride varies between day and evening, during the day as the ride is open the ride is lit by natural daylight, but in the evening there is lighting in the queue and from the floating lanterns about the ride
  • The ride plays songs from tangled, there are no other unexpected noises.
  • If you can walk to the ride there is a storage area for wheelchairs, and other mobility aids like rollator walkers, to one side between the entrance and the exit
  • If you need to take your chair up to the ride you can do so and then a companion or the cast member can move it to this area, and they can return it after the ride
  • Walking sticks and crutches can be handed to a cast member or left in this area.

Wheelchair and mobility aid storage

  • Transferring from the ride back into a wheelchair is the reverse of boarding, and the cast member will open up the side and either them or a companion can place the wheelchair in the correct place
  • If you have the walking ability you can retrieve any aids from the storage area on the way to the exit, otherwise a cast member or companion can bring them to you
  • Once you have exited the boat cast members will direct to the nearest exit gate to exit directly out onto adventure way

Exiting the ride

None of our group were ever big fans of the teacups ride, for me it was a very difficult, almost impossible transfer (due to the saucer) combined with motion sickness that meant it was not a ride I loved, but we all ended up loving this ride. This was somewhat unexpected but I found the transfer so much easier than I had anticipated due to the adapted vehicle, and as I knew I wanted to try this ride I had taken motion sickness medication in advance!

We all felt that while the boats are still a little snug they are a bit roomier than teacups and with some of our group in the plus size range, up to about a size 24ish we all fit.

We all found this just a really fun and joyful ride!

Our real life experiences

  • Agree with your riding companion/s how comfortable you are with the spinning and with turning the boat to increase spinning speed!
  • The ride is beautiful at any time but there is something special about it when the lanterns are lit up and it is darker, it's worth trying to ride in the evening
  • If you cn try to look up and enjoy the spectacular ceiling!

Our top tips and recommendations

Overall Accessibility Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐☆

  • Best for: Those who enjoy spinning rides, but find the transfer onto teacups difficult, and for fans of tangled and the music
  • Challenging for: Those with motion sickness or issues with spinning rides, and for those with less core and upper body strength for transfer,
