What to expect from Hotel Room Service - Vegan Edition

Having room service breakfast can be a real treat and a lovely relaxing way to start your day, especially if you need a bit longer to get ready in a morning and want a more relaxing start to the day.

Currently three Disney hotels offer a room service breakfast option:

  • Disneyland Hotel
  • Hotel New York - the Art of Marvel
  • Newport Bay Club

The room service option can also work out at great value, there is often plenty of food and you can order a la carte options which are often significantly cheaper than the hotel buffets. In addition if you order the full continental option you can keep any leftovers or make up sandwiches etc with them as this is all your food, and not a buffet (where taking food for later is not allowed).

Why is this a good option for Vegans?

While the hotel buffets do cater well for vegans, they can be pricey to have every day. Beyond the buffets other options are rare. Popular options for others such as MacDonalds, Earl of Sandwich and Le Comptoir have no vegan options, Starbucks is also often a no go, and the options in the parks also don't cater for vegans, despite vegan croissants being available at the buffets they are not available at the quick serve breakfast locations. Sports bar does now have a vegan option, an Acai Bowl (they technically have two but they are pretty much the same!) or a fruit salad.

The room service options mean you can have a full belly before starting your park day!

So lets dive into the options at each hotel.

Newport Bay Club

Newport Bay club offers room service for all rooms for breakfast. You can select a full continental breakfast with a range of vegan swaps, or from the a la carte menu they offer a vegan platter for 12 euros.

I ordered the vegan platter, and this also came with a vegan croissant. There was 2 beyond sausages, which are a favourite of mine, plus baked beans, half a grilled tomato, sliced potatoes and a toasted bread roll. It also came with some vegan spread and the very cute jars of tomato sauce and mustard. We did not order any additional drinks and just used the coffee provided in the room, This meal was served on trays.

I didn't finish it but I tried everything, and I really enjoyed this option, Compared to the 10 euros for a cooked breakfast at earl of sandwich I felt this was good value especially since we can't have the one at earl! I saved the croissant to have a snack later and even later in the day having only been wrapped in a napkin it was still good!

Overall I really rate this option as it is such good value. The only downside for me is this is at Newport Bay which I have major issues with for overall accessibility, so not one I can have very often!

Hotel New York - the Art of Marvel

Hotel New York also offers room service for all rooms for breakfast and again you can select a full continental breakfast with a range of vegan swaps, or from the a la carte menu they also offer a vegan platter for 12 euros. This is very similar to the platter from Newport Bay Club.

No Vegan Croissant with this one though, instead just toast. There was however 3 beyond sausages, plus the baked beans and sliced potatoes and 3 smaller grilled whole tomatoes. It came with some vegan spread and the very cute jars of tomato sauce and mustard, which as with Newport bay are Heinz!

Instead of a tray they set us up a table here. We had been given a suite due to accessibility issues so there was plenty of space for the table and I know you can also have a table set up in standard rooms, but this would be more of a squeeze.

Overall this was very similar to Newport and I enjoyed it again, though I did miss the croissant as toast doesn't quite keep for later in the same way. There was also a basket of bread rolls, but we were not sure who those belonged to as we had ordered as a group! It's still really good value and I would get this any time I stay at New York though it has the same accessibility issues as Newport Bay so again probably not that often!

Disneyland Hotel

We had two nights at Disneyland Hotel so I got to try two different options from the vgean options on the A la carte menu. As with Newport and New York they still have the continental option with substitutions but they had 5, a whole 5, vegan options on the a la carte menu!

As you may expect these were priced higher than the other hotels, between 18 and 20 euros, but still felt good value. They also had a much larger range for non-vegans. It was actually really hard to choose here!

Day one I went for the scrambled tofu on toast with tomatoes and sausages. These all came as seperate plates so you could assemble as you wished, I am going to admit the tofu did not look appealing to me at all when it first arrived as it was very pale and looked a bit watery, but I may have judged too soon as it was actually delicious, though if I stay again I may bring a little pot of Kala Namak salt with me! I got one very large slice of toast and added the tofu and topped with the full bowl of tomatoes. I also had 6 beyond sausages, which was a lot! Again we didn't order drinks but the room had some pear nectar in the fridge and we had a bottle of champagne so we had Bellini's with breakfast! I really enjoyed this meal, it was far too much though, but I suppose they don't want people to feel short changed with tiny servings.

On morning two I opted for the Chickpea galettes. These were savoury pancakes served with spinach, tomatoes, shoots and some faux feta style cheese. They were light and fluffy and had great herby flavours that were not too strong. The portion size on this seemed much more reasonable, but I was still full when I finished them.

I would happily eat either of these again but there was a further three options to try so if I have another chance I may need to try something new, like the Acai bowl.
